Why do companies think that just because they commonly use a word or phrase in their product or service they own that word? They didn't invent the word. It's been around longer than they have, but they trademark it as if they just added it to the English dictionary. This problem is very common among Internet companies. Example: Some poor Jane comes up with a good idea and puts it on the net. Shortly after Jane achieves success, some big company sends her legal threats claiming that she copied from their product, which has nothing to do with Jane's idea. Jane is then either forced to change her product name or forced out of business.
This abuse of the trademark laws must be stopped. It is time to stand up to the big companies. I encourage you to contact companies who are guilty of this and register your disgust. Such a crime must be stopped!
